A 40,000 m² commercial property in Stora Essingen. Open-plan offices with a ceiling that needed to absorb sound — without calling attention to itself.

The building management wanted a ceiling solution that would improve speech intelligibility across the open floor. The space was a standard suspended T-grid layout — fast to install, but acoustically untreated.
The requirement was speech intelligibility across an open floor, and a ceiling that reads as a neutral surface rather than as acoustic treatment. Absorption had to do its work between 500 Hz and 2 kHz, where conversation sits.
Aisti Aalto went up alongside the standard mineral wool tile in the same grid, in the same 600 × 600 module, so the two could be compared in place.

The result

speech sits.
Absorption coefficients from Aisti's EN ISO 354 reverberation room test, 20 mm mounted tight to the soffit. In that build-up Aisti rate the tile αw 0.65 — Class C to EN ISO 11654 — because absorption at 125 Hz falls to 0.10 and the single-number rating follows the weak end. Across 500 Hz to 2 kHz it holds 0.75 to 0.80. The same tile over a 200 mm plenum is rated αw 0.95, Class A.
