Sappa.

Acoustic panels pressed from hemp shiv and a cement-free mineral binder. Hemp reaches full height in a season, on little water and no pesticides. For walls and ceilings, brought to Denmark by Beyond Rational.

The material

From the stem,
to the panel.

01
A fast-renewing raw material

Hemp needs little water, no pesticides, and reaches full height in a few months rather than years. Sappa reports that it captures atmospheric carbon around twice as efficiently as forestry over that cycle. A rapidly renewable material, by nature.

02
Zero-waste by construction

The panels are pressed from stem chips — the residue left over once fibre is stripped from the plant for other industrial uses. Material that would otherwise be discarded becomes the product.

03
Binder without cement

A cement-free mineral binder holds the hemp chips together, with no synthetic flame retardants added — naturally fire-resistant, and recyclable at end of life.

The build

Hemp shiv,
mineral binder.

Head-to-head

Comparable acoustics.
Different material.

Sappa

Hemp panel
vs

Troldtekt

Cement-bonded wood wool
Same physics, either brand

Neither panel reaches absorption Class A on its own — both need something behind them, like mineral wool or the air gap our Aisti Aalto® tiles use. Bare or backed, the acoustic performance is genuinely comparable between Sappa and Troldtekt; the real difference is what the panel itself is made from.
